Why Rinsing #2 Lathering Cleanser Thoroughly Matters
#2 Lathering Cleanser completes the cleansing phase of the Metrin Skincare System. Its rich lather helps remove remaining surface residue and buildup after #1 Deep Cleanser, leaving the skin ready for the conditioning and protective steps that follow.
Although #2 Lathering Cleanser is gentle, it is important to rinse it from the skin completely.
Cleansing Should Not Mean Stripping the Skin
The purpose of cleansing is to remove makeup, excess surface oil, environmental residue and other unwanted buildup. It is not to remove everything naturally present on the skin.
Healthy skin has protective surface lipids, a mildly acidic surface environment known as the acid mantle, and a diverse community of resident microorganisms known collectively as the skin microbiome. Together, these help support the skin barrier, moisture balance and natural defences.
Cleansers that focus primarily on removing as much oil as possible may remove more than dirt and excess sebum. Overly aggressive cleansing can also remove protective skin lipids, contribute to dryness and tightness, and disturb the skin’s surface environment—including the conditions that support its natural microbiome.
The goal should therefore be effective cleansing with minimal unnecessary disruption.
A Soap-Free Alternative to Traditional Soap
#2 Lathering Cleanser is a soap-free syndet cleanser. “Syndet” is short for “synthetic detergent,” meaning that the formula uses specially selected cleansing agents rather than traditional soap to lift impurities from the skin.
The word “synthetic” does not mean harsh. It refers to cleansing agents that can be carefully selected and combined to provide greater control over cleansing performance and mildness.
Traditional soaps are generally alkaline. They can raise the skin’s surface pH and remove protective oils and lipids, sometimes leaving the skin feeling stripped, dry or tight. Changes to the skin’s pH and lipid balance may also disturb the surface conditions that support its natural microbiome.
Some non-soap cleansers can also be overly aggressive when they are formulated primarily for strong foaming, degreasing or oil removal. A cleanser’s effect on the skin depends on its complete formulation—not simply whether it produces lather or is labelled “soap-free.”
#2 Lathering Cleanser combines its cleansing agents with certified organic aloe vera, panthenol, allantoin and soy protein to help support skin comfort and conditioning during cleansing.
This distinguishes it from a basic cleanser designed only to remove dirt and oil. It is formulated as one part of a complete routine that cleanses, conditions and protects the skin.
However, even a thoughtfully formulated syndet remains a rinse-off cleanser. Its skin-supporting ingredients do not mean that its cleansing agents should be left on the skin.
Why Thorough Rinsing Is Important
Cleansing agents work by surrounding oil, residue and surface impurities so they can be carried away with water. If the cleanser is not fully rinsed away, some cleansing agents and the material they have loosened may remain on the skin.
Residual cleanser may continue interacting with the skin’s surface after cleansing is complete. When this happens repeatedly, the skin may begin to feel:
-
dry or unusually tight;
-
rough or flaky;
-
uncomfortable after cleansing; or
-
more sensitive than usual.
These symptoms do not necessarily mean that #2 Lathering Cleanser is too strong for your skin. The first step is to make sure you are using an appropriate amount and rinsing it away thoroughly.
How to Rinse #2 Lathering Cleanser Properly
After cleansing with #2 Lathering Cleanser:
-
Remove the cleanser gently with a clean washcloth dampened with comfortably warm water.
-
Splash the skin several times to remove all remaining traces.
-
Continue rinsing after the visible lather has disappeared.
-
Pay particular attention to areas where cleanser can collect, including around the nose, beneath the jawline, near the ears, along the hairline and on the neck.
-
Gently pass your fingertips over the skin to make sure no foam, film or slippery residue remains.
-
Pat the skin dry with a clean towel. Do not rub.
Avoid very hot water, which can remove more surface oil and contribute to dryness and discomfort.
The Most Common Rinsing Mistake
A common mistake is to stop rinsing as soon as the visible foam disappears.
The absence of foam does not always mean that every trace of cleanser has been removed. Taking a little more time to rinse—especially around the edges of the face and beneath the jaw—can make a noticeable difference in how comfortable the skin feels afterward.
Using more cleanser than necessary can also make complete rinsing more difficult. Only a small amount is needed to create the lather required for effective cleansing.
If Your Skin Feels Dry or Flaky
Begin by:
-
using slightly less #2 Lathering Cleanser;
-
rinsing for longer;
-
making sure the water is not too hot; and
-
avoiding excessive rubbing with a washcloth or towel.
If dryness, tightness or flaking continues, temporarily suspend #2 Lathering Cleanser. Continue using #1 Deep Cleanser and the conditioning and protective steps of your Metrin Skincare System as directed.
Once your skin feels comfortable again, #2 Lathering Cleanser can be reintroduced gradually. Begin with less frequent use, use only a small amount and continue to rinse it especially thoroughly.
Persistent redness, burning, swelling or discomfort may have another cause. Discontinue the product and contact Metrin Client Care or an appropriate health care professional for guidance.
Gentle Cleansing Still Requires Complete Rinsing
The soap-free syndet formulation of #2 Lathering Cleanser is one of the features that distinguishes it from traditional alkaline soap and cleansers formulated primarily for aggressive oil removal.
Its cleansing agents help remove remaining residue and buildup, while certified organic aloe vera, panthenol, allantoin and soy protein help support skin comfort and conditioning during cleansing.
Its gentleness, however, still depends partly on proper use. Applying the right amount, avoiding overly hot water and rinsing every trace from the skin help #2 Lathering Cleanser perform as intended.
Thorough cleansing does not require stripping the skin. It requires removing what the skin does not need while respecting what helps keep it comfortable, balanced and resilient.
