What If My Skin Feels Dry or Flaky?
Dryness, tightness, or light flaking after starting your Metrin Skincare System does not necessarily mean that the system is unsuitable for your skin.
This may occur as your skin adjusts to a different cleansing and conditioning routine. It may also mean that your skin needs more conditioning, that you are using too much of a cleansing step, or that some of the #2 Lathering Cleanser has not been completely rinsed away.
Dryness or flaking may be more noticeable if your previous routine cleansed less thoroughly or did not provide the same gentle exfoliating action. Weather, indoor heating, air conditioning, and other products in your skin care routine can also affect how your skin feels.
A few simple adjustments will usually help restore comfort and give your skin time to adjust.
First, Check How You Are Using #2 Lathering Cleanser
Incomplete rinsing is one of the most common reasons skin may feel dry, tight, or flaky.
When using #2 Lathering Cleanser:
-
Apply it to wet skin.
-
Add enough water to create a light lather.
-
Use a very gentle touch. Do not rub or scrub.
-
Rinse repeatedly with lukewarm water.
-
Pay particular attention to the hairline, sides of the face, around the nose, and beneath the jaw.
Your skin should not feel soapy, slippery, or coated when you have finished rinsing.
Adjust the Amounts You Are Using
The Metrin Skincare System for Her is designed to be adjusted according to what your skin needs.
When your skin feels dry or flaky:
-
use slightly less #2 Lathering Cleanser;
-
use a little more #3 Vita Conditioner;
-
make sure #4 Protective Lotion is applied evenly over the entire face and neck; and
-
use a little more #5 Enriched Vita Conditioner, especially over areas that feel dry.
Continue using the five steps in their proper order. The goal is to rebalance the amounts—not to remove the nourishing and protective steps your skin needs.
Temporarily Suspend #2 Lathering Cleanser if Needed
If dryness or flaking continues after you have reduced the amount of #2 Lathering Cleanser and confirmed that it is being rinsed thoroughly, temporarily suspend its use in both your morning and evening routines.
Continue using:
-
#1 Deep Cleanser;
-
#3 Vita Conditioner;
-
#4 Protective Lotion; and
-
#5 Enriched Vita Conditioner.
Observe how your skin responds for approximately one week, or until it feels comfortable again.
Once your skin feels comfortable, reintroduce a small amount of #2 Lathering Cleanser during your evening routine only. Add plenty of water to create a light lather, use a gentle touch, and rinse very thoroughly.
Continue using it in the evening while your skin readjusts. Once your skin remains consistently comfortable, you may gradually return #2 Lathering Cleanser to your morning routine as well.
Keep Your Touch Light
Metrin products are designed to do the work without aggressive rubbing.
Use clean hands and apply each step gently. Avoid scrubbing away visible flakes, since this can leave the skin feeling more irritated and uncomfortable.
Wash with lukewarm rather than hot water, and pat the skin dry with a clean, soft towel.
Simplify the Rest of Your Routine
While your skin is feeling dry or flaky, avoid adding unnecessary products or treatments.
Temporarily set aside products that may increase dryness or irritation, such as:
-
facial scrubs;
-
exfoliating acids;
-
retinoids;
-
drying masks;
-
astringent toners; and
-
strongly fragranced skin care products.
Following the adjusted Metrin Skincare routine consistently makes it easier to understand how your skin is responding and which changes are helping.
Consider Environmental Changes
Skin may need additional conditioning during:
-
cold or windy weather;
-
periods of low humidity;
-
prolonged exposure to indoor heating or air conditioning;
-
travel; or
-
seasonal changes.
During these times, you may need to increase #3 Vita Conditioner or #5 Enriched Vita Conditioner until your skin feels comfortable again.
Should I Stop Using Metrin?
You do not usually need to stop using the entire Metrin Skincare System.
Mild dryness or flaking can often be addressed by:
-
using less #2 Lathering Cleanser;
-
rinsing #2 Lathering Cleanser more thoroughly;
-
temporarily suspending #2 Lathering Cleanser;
-
increasing the conditioning steps; and
-
avoiding other products that may be contributing to dryness.
Make the adjustments above and observe how your skin responds.
Discontinue use and seek appropriate medical advice if you experience severe or worsening discomfort, significant swelling, blistering, a persistent rash, or another reaction that concerns you.
