How Much of Each Metrin Product Should I Use?

The right amount of a Metrin product is enough to cover the intended area comfortably and perform the step correctly—without excessive rubbing, a heavy residue or unnecessary waste.

Because dispensing volume can vary between bottles, pumps and package sizes, Metrin does not need to be reduced to a rigid number of drops or pumps.

For each step, begin with a small amount. Apply it as directed, observe how it spreads and make a small adjustment when needed.

A Simple Rule for Every Step

Begin with a small amount and ask:

  • Does the product cover the full intended area?

  • Does it spread without pulling or dragging the skin?

  • Can I complete the step gently?

  • Does my skin feel comfortable afterward?

  • Am I leaving a large amount on my hands, washcloth or skin?

Use slightly more when the product does not provide complete, comfortable coverage.

Use slightly less when a large amount remains unused or the skin feels unnecessarily coated.

Make small adjustments rather than changing the amount dramatically.

Women’s Five-Step System

Step 1: Deep Cleanser

Begin with a small amount in the palm of your hand.

Spread it lightly over both hands, then smooth it across the intended application area.

Use enough to cover the:

  • face;

  • neck;

  • upper chest, when included;

  • makeup areas;

  • other areas directed in your routine.

The cleanser should spread smoothly without pulling or dragging the skin.

You may need slightly more if:

  • the product disappears before the full area is covered;

  • your fingers begin to drag;

  • makeup or surface debris remains in untreated areas;

  • the neck or upper chest is included in the application.

You may be using more than necessary if:

  • a thick layer remains on the skin;

  • a large amount is left on your hands;

  • substantial unused product is removed with the washcloth;

  • removal becomes unnecessarily time-consuming.

A temporarily more generous application may be used on areas with visible surface buildup, blackheads or enlarged-looking pores. This does not require a thick coating or aggressive massage.

Step 2: Lathering Cleanser

Wet your hands and begin with a small amount of Lathering Cleanser in one wet palm.

Add water and gently work your hands together while allowing space between the palms for air to enter.

The goal is a light, bubbling lather—not a thick, creamy-white layer.

Add water before adding more cleanser

If the lather appears thick or creamy, add more water and continue aerating it.

A large quantity of cleanser is not required to create an effective lather. Technique, water and aeration are more important than using more product.

You may be using too little if:

  • no workable lather forms after water is added;

  • the bubbles disappear before the intended area is covered;

  • some areas receive no cleanser.

You may be using more than necessary if:

  • the lather is unusually dense or heavy;

  • rinsing takes an excessive amount of time;

  • cleanser repeatedly remains around the hairline, nose, jaw, ears or neck;

  • a substantial amount is left in your hands.

Rinse completely

Regardless of the amount used, Step 2 must be removed thoroughly.

Use a wet washcloth gently, then splash the face and neck repeatedly with plenty of lukewarm water until no cleanser remains.

Incomplete rinsing may contribute to dryness, tightness, itching or discomfort.

Step 3: Vita Conditioner

Begin with a small amount.

Apply it gently over the face and neck, using light upward and outward movements. Extend it to the upper chest, arms or hands when these areas are included in your routine.

Use enough to achieve smooth, comfortable coverage.

You may need slightly more if:

  • the product does not reach the full area;

  • the skin feels tight after application;

  • dry areas remain uncomfortable;

  • weather, indoor heating, air conditioning or shaving has made the skin feel drier.

You may be using more than necessary if:

  • a heavy layer remains on the skin;

  • the product takes an unusually long time to settle;

  • the next step cannot be applied evenly;

  • the skin feels excessively coated.

Your skin may temporarily need a more generous application of Vita Conditioner. Increase it gradually rather than applying one very heavy layer.

Step 4: Protective Lotion

Begin with a small amount.

Pat it gently under and around the eye area, then smooth it over the face and neck.

Repeat with another small amount as needed until the skin is evenly and completely dampened.

This application endpoint is more useful than relying on a fixed number of drops.

The skin should feel dampened, but it should not be dripping or heavily coated.

You may need slightly more if:

  • portions of the face or neck remain untreated;

  • the product does not spread across the full area;

  • the skin is not evenly dampened.

You may be using more than necessary if:

  • the product is running down the skin;

  • a large quantity remains in your hands;

  • the skin feels excessively wet or coated;

  • the final conditioner cannot be applied comfortably.

Step 5: Enriched Vita Conditioner

Begin with a small amount.

Apply it gently over the face and neck without rubbing or vigorously massaging. Extend the application to the upper chest, arms or hands when included in your routine.

The finished result should be a satiny smooth feeling.

Your skin should feel:

  • comfortable;

  • conditioned;

  • smooth;

  • neither oily nor dry.

You may need slightly more if:

  • the product does not cover the full area;

  • certain areas continue to feel dry or tight;

  • the product cannot be spread without pulling the skin.

You may be using more than necessary if:

  • the skin feels heavily coated;

  • substantial product remains on the surface;

  • the final finish feels greasy rather than satiny;

  • the product transfers excessively to clothing or bedding.

Should I Use More Conditioner When My Skin Feels Dry?

Yes. A modest increase in Vita Conditioner and Enriched Vita Conditioner may help when the skin feels temporarily dry, tight or flaky.

Before increasing the conditioners, confirm that:

  • Step 2 has been rinsed away completely;

  • you are using lukewarm rather than excessively hot water;

  • you are handling the washcloth gently;

  • you are not skipping any of the conditioning steps;

  • another cleanser, exfoliant, retinoid, acid or treatment is not contributing to the dryness.

Increase the conditioners gradually.

You may:

  • use a slightly more generous application;

  • add another light application to the driest areas;

  • allow each light layer to settle before deciding whether more is needed.

Several light applications may be more comfortable than one very heavy application.

If dryness continues, contact Client Care before making major changes to the routine.

Should I Use Less Conditioner If My Skin Is Oily?

Not automatically.

Oily skin can still need conditioning. Skipping Vita Conditioner or Enriched Vita Conditioner may make the routine less balanced and may make it harder to evaluate how the complete system is working.

Begin with small, light applications.

Use only enough to provide complete coverage and a comfortable, satiny finish. Adjust the amount rather than eliminating a step.

How Much Should I Use After Shaving?

Shaving may temporarily increase the skin’s need for conditioning.

After shaving:

  1. Begin with a small amount of Vita Conditioner.

  2. Apply it gently without rubbing.

  3. Pat on enough Protective Lotion to dampen the shaved area evenly.

  4. Finish with a small amount of Enriched Vita Conditioner.

Add another light application to areas that feel tight.

For dry electric shaving, avoid applying an excessive amount of Vita Conditioner before shaving, as product buildup may collect in the shaving head.

Face Only Versus Face, Neck and Upper Chest

You will naturally need more product when applying the routine beyond the face.

Do not try to stretch an amount intended for the face across the neck and upper chest.

Instead:

  1. Begin with a small amount for the face.

  2. Add another small amount for the neck.

  3. Add more only when covering the upper chest, arms, hands or shaved areas.

This provides more even coverage and reduces the need to pull or drag the skin.

Why Fixed Drop or Pump Counts Are Not the Best Guide

The amount dispensed can vary depending on:

  • the bottle or pump design;

  • the package size;

  • how firmly the dispenser is pressed;

  • the product’s consistency;

  • whether the container is full or nearly empty;

  • whether a pump has been fully primed.

For that reason, begin with a small amount and judge the application by:

  • complete coverage;

  • ease of spreading;

  • correct technique;

  • thorough removal where required;

  • skin comfort;

  • the appropriate finished feel.

If an approved product label provides a measured quantity for a specific use, follow the label directions.

Signs That Your Amounts May Need Adjustment

Review the quantity you are using when:

  • a cleanser does not cover the intended area;

  • your fingers pull or drag during application;

  • Step 2 produces an unnecessarily heavy lather;

  • Step 2 is difficult to rinse away;

  • your skin feels persistently tight;

  • dry or flaky areas are developing;

  • conditioning products do not reach the full face and neck;

  • products remain heavily on the surface;

  • your routine feels excessively wet or coated;

  • one product runs out much sooner than expected.

Products within the system may not be depleted at exactly the same rate. Application area, skin needs, shaving and seasonal changes can affect usage.

A substantial or continuing difference may indicate that one product is being overused or underused.

Adjust One Thing at a Time

When changing your routine, make one small adjustment and observe how your skin responds.

For example:

  • add more water to Step 2 rather than adding more cleanser;

  • rinse Step 2 more thoroughly if the skin feels tight;

  • increase Vita Conditioner slightly if the skin feels dry;

  • apply an additional light layer to one dry area;

  • reduce the final conditioner slightly if the finish feels heavy.

Changing several amounts at once can make it difficult to identify what helped.

When to Contact Client Care

Contact Metrin Client Care if:

  • you remain unsure how much product to use;

  • one product is running out much faster than the others;

  • dryness continues after improving Step 2 rinsing;

  • your skin remains dry after increasing the conditioners;

  • your skin feels persistently heavy or coated;

  • you need help adapting the routine for shaving;

  • the routine does not feel comfortable;

  • you are considering stopping the system because of an early-use concern.

The Right Amount Is the Amount That Completes the Step

There is no need to use the largest possible quantity.

For every Metrin product:

  1. Begin with a small amount.

  2. Apply it using the recommended technique.

  3. Check that the intended area is completely covered.

  4. Add a little more only when needed.

  5. Adjust future applications according to skin comfort and the correct finished feel.

Complete coverage, gentle technique, thorough Step 2 rinsing and consistent use of the full system matter more than an exact number of drops or pumps.
